Several events dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide were held in Akhaltskha on April 24th. Starting from the early hours of April 24th, citizens of Akhaltskha gathered at St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church to participate in the Requiem Mass in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. At midday, people from the villages also gathered in the patio of the church and started the march, passing through the major streets of the city. On Apr. 25, Governor of Samtskhe-Javakheti Akaki Matchutadze, acting Gambebeli of Akhaltskha Malkhaz Zhuzhunadze, Deputy Gamgebeli Ashot Manasyan and other guests attended an event dedicated to the Georgian language at the Armenian school in Akhaltskha. In the beginning, all the attendees respected the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 with a moment of silence. On the eve of Apr. 24, a group of Armenian youth gathered at the central park in Akhaltskha and remembered the victims of the Armenian Genocide with pictures of the intellectuals who were killed in Constantinople on April 24, 1915. The youth lit candles in memory of the victims of the Genocide, after which they climbed to St. Nshan Church where they also lit candles and prayed for the souls of the victims to rest in peace. On Apr. 27, a charity event was held in the Armenian Sukhlis village of Akhaltskha region. The event began with a tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Among the attendees were Deputy Gamgebeli of Akhaltskha Ashoht Manasyan, the head of Sukhlis village and representatives of the Armenian Youth Educational and Cultural Center of Akhaltskha. The participants of the event performed Armenian patriotic songs, Georgian folk songs, as well as Georgian and Armenian dances and pop songs.
