Youth Center of Akhaltskha respected memory of earthquake victims
On December 7, the Armenian Youth Educational-Cultural Center of Akhaltskha held an event dedicated to the memory of the victims of the 1988 devastating Spitak Earthquake.

In the beginning, all the attendees respected the memory of the victims of the devastating earthquake with a moment of silence, after which the members of the Center shared stories about the earthquake and recited poems about the great disaster in 1988.

In the end, the gathered viewed touching photos taken during the devastating earthquake.

Director for education at the Youth Center Eduard Ayvazyan recalled the Georgians’ support following the earthquake and the fact that Georgians were the first to extend a helping hand to the friendly Armenians. Ayvazyan also asked the eyewitnesses of the earthquake to present all that had happened on that day in more detail.

Deputy Gamgebeli of Akhaltskha Ashot Manasyan, who was also attending the event, told the gathered that he had also been at the scene on those days and had tried to help the locals. President of the Vahram Gaifejyan Union of Creators Alexander Igitkhanyan had trouble sharing his story about how the Armenian school of Akhaltskha, where he was teaching, had turned into a "headquarters for help” during those days.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the devastating Spitak Earthquake, a Divine Liturgy was served for the souls of the innocent victims at St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Church of Akhaltskha.
