The Armenian Youth Educational-Cultural Center in Akhaltskha gave a concert dedicated to its 5th anniversary at one of the halls in Akhaltskha on December 22.
Attending the event were leaders and representatives of the Armenian Youth Educational-Cultural Center in Akhaltskha, Chairwoman of the Armenian Relief Society in Georgia Karine Tadevosyan, Priest of Akhaltskha Tigran Mkhitaryan, former director of the Center Grigor Minasyan and many other guests.
The event began with the Lord’s Prayer, after which Center representative Nanuli Hakobyan expressed her deep gratitude to all the guests on behalf of the entire staff of the organization, as well as presented the activities of the past five years and upcoming programs.

Public School N 3 after Hovhannes Tumanyan in Akhaltskha held a beautiful event dedicated to the 90th anniversary of famous Armenian composer Arno Babajanyan on October 13.
The students presented the famous works by Arno Babajanyan, as well as his life and the words of appraisal of famous individuals.
Arno Babajanyan was born in Yerevan on January 22, 1921. He left a rich legacy of songs, as well as instrumental and symphonic music. Arno Babajanyan created in different genres, including classical, pop and jazz.

A mountain ski resort constructing works is started near the territory of Aragaova village, in Akhalkalaki. The length of the ski track will be 280m.
A ski school, camps for tourists and hotels are also planned to build in Akhalkhalaki. The constructing works of swimming-pool are finished.
This project is supported by the fond of the president and the aim is to develop this kind of sport in this region and this will improve economic situation.
Extensive reconstruction works are implemented in Akhaltsikhe in the last period. Some of planned works are coming to the end, and some has been just started.
During the last months different reconstruction works are done in the old territory of the town called Rabat. The museum building and the Castle are restored. The main aim of castle restoration is to turn the town into tourist zone.
It is also planned to construct a rope-way, that will make easier for tourists to reach the renewed Museum and Castle.
A new Shopping Centre is also built on Tamarashvili Street. A new bridge is constructed to connect the Shopping Centre to the town centre. It is on Aspindza and Tamarashvili Streets.

On 13-19 July a training- program for English language teachers was held in Akhaltsikhe.It was organized by The Teachers’ Training Association of Georgia. It was led by the trainer of the association Silviya Andernovies.
The training was for all English language teachers of Javakhk region.
The aim of the program was to train the teachers for the teaching the firs grade pupils, as according to the Educational Ministry of Georgia, at schools English will be taught from the first grade.
" This training- program is necessary for English language teachers, other way they will not be allowed to teach English the pupils of the first grade’’- mentioned Silviya Andernovies.
On June 17 a meeting was organized at the Union of Democrat Meskhs between the representative of Georgian "Focus” research group and the representative of government organs and non-government organizations and teachers of the Georgian Language at Armenian schools.
The aim of the teachers was to discuss the issue of integration of the ethnic minorities.
According to the Georgian participants the main problem for integration of the ethnic minorities is that the Armenians living in Samtskhe-Javakheti Region don’t know Georgian. The participants mentioned that the problem of the language is connected with the fact that lots of villages in Javakheti are inhabited with Armenians and that they do not communicate Georgian speakers. In the morning of 14 June, on the second day of the visit in Akhaltsikhe, Catholicos of all Armenia Garegin II visited the village of Akhaltskha Tsughrut. His Holiness Garegin II was greeted by people with traditional bread and salt.
In Tsughrut people showed Catholicos Garegin II the oldest Gospel, which was brought from the city Karin by one of the Armenian families in 19th century.
After the members of the delegation headed to the primacy of Akhaltsikhe and Tao-Klarjeti Georgian episcopate. The guests were greeted by the leader of Akhaltsikhe and Tao-Klarjeti episcopate-Teodor Metropolit Chuadze. At church the spiritual class officiated to the Mass and Catholicos Garegin offered his blessings.
Then the delegation headed by the Catholicos of all Armenia and Georgian Patriarch Illia II moved to Aspindza and Akhalkhalaki.
Yesterday, newly appointed RA Ambassador to Georgia, Hovhannes Manukyan, met with representatives of the Javakhk Armenian press in Tbilisi.
Present at the meeting held at the Armenian Embassy were Karapet Melkonyan, Director of the "ATV 12" TV station in Akhalkalak; Artur Oganesyan, Chief Editor of Batum's "Armenian Magazine"; Edward Ayvazyan, Chief Editor of the magazine "Akhaltskha Rebirth" and the editor of Ninotzminda's "Arshalyus" magazine.
After a discussion of the challenges facing the Armenian press in Georgia, Ambassador Manukyan directed staff members to present the representatives with funds provided by the government in Armenia.
On 30-31 May a two-day training-program was held in Akhaltsikhe Adults’ Educational Centre on " Human Rights”. The training was organized with the support of UNO and it was the representatives of mass-media, non-government organizations and students.
The training leaders were Lia Mukhashavria- the representative of Human Rights Defense Ministry in UNO, Zviad Koridze- the president of the Media Ethics Unite and Tamar Chugoshvili- the president of The Youth Legal Association.
The aim of the project was to present international human rights to the representatives of mass-media and non- government organizations. During the training some examples of rights violation connected with justice and media were discussed.
They also spoke about the standards of the media and journalists’ ethics.
On 26 May sport competitions and painting on the asphalt on the topic "We Want Peace” were organized in the central park of Akhaltsikhe, dedicated to the Independence Day of Georgia.
According to the Akhaltsikhe municipality web-site, on this event football championship was between Akhaltsikhe N1 and Atskuri village public school teams. The game finished with the winning of Atskuri school team.
Parvana HES is being constructed of Akhalkhalakhi and Aspindza Municipality.
According to the project HES will be constructed 1km away from Parvana and Mtkvari Rivers crossway towards Vardzia, 700km from Khertvisi village on the right bank of the river.
The main construction will be 150m from the crossway from Parvana and Korkhistskhali Rrivers.
The aim of the project is to make a 220 kwt electro transmitted line from Parvana HES to Akhaltsikhe substation and its exploitation.
The realization of this project has started in 2009 and the total cost of this project makes up 160 million US dollar.
Church of Akhaltskha, which was turned into Officers’ House during the USSR period, is being reconstructed for a month with the aim of moving the Municipality to this building.
The workers discovered a cross-stone during the repairing of the walls of former St. Savior Church.
When Akhaltskha spiritual team got information about this fact, they asked local government for permission to move the cross-stone to functioning Armenian church, and they got positive answer.

On 24 April, after the Easter church service, the Armenians of the town and villages walked towards the stone-cross Genocide memorial through the central roads of the town with the state flag, numerous demanding posters and slogans.
At the memorial the people put flowers and prayed for souls of the victim of Armenian Genocide in 1915.
In the evening of 23 April lit torches march was organized by " Zori Zoryan” Youth Centre from the Akhaltskha Armenian Youth Cultural and Educational Centre towards the stone- cross Genocide memorial in Marda.
The participants with flags and torches invoked the authority of Georgia to recognize the Armenian Genocide in 1915.
At the memorial the participants of the lit torches march together with the priest of Akhaltskha Armenian villages Father Movses Manukyan prayed for the souls of the victims of Armenian Genocide, had a speech about the Genocide and song different patriotic songs.
On 18 April the priest Father Tigran Mkhitaryan held a meeting at Akhaltskha St. Grigor Illuminator Church, where the representatives of social organizations, the Armenian individuals having different state positions and intelligence of the town were present.
The purpose of the meeting was to inform Armenian population about the visit of the Catholicos of all Armenia in June, ask people about their own ideas and ask for their support in preparation for this visit.
At this meeting, when Father Tigran presented the plans of the visit of all Armenian Catholicos, it was revealed that Garegin B was not planning to visit St. Nshan Church. This fact caused dissatisfaction of the people who were present at this meeting.

The Akhaltskha Cultural Youth Center will once again stage a march to commemorate the 1915 Armenian Genocide.
Carrying lit torches and candles, marchers will make their way from the Center on April 23 at 7:30pm towards the stone cross Genocide memorial. On Easter Sunday, after services at St. Gregory the Illuminator Church residents carrying banners and placards will walk to the memorial for a requiem service.
On 17 April Father Mkhitaryan held a mass dedicated to the holiday Tsaghkazard at St. Grigor Lusavorich Church. It was followed by blessing the children, that was established at Armenian Apostolic Church by Garegin B. Armenian Catholicos many years ago.
An event dedicated to the children’s blessing day was also organized at Akhaltskha Armenian Youth Cultural and Educational Centre. The children were able to sing, dance and tell rhymes. At the end of the event Father Tigran gave symbolic presents to the children.
On 14 April an exhibition was opened by the initiative of Akhaltskha Creative Union at the house of the Union founder representative Aleksandr Igitkhanyan.
The exhibition was dedicated to the great Armenian painter Vahram Gayfejyan’s 132 anniversary. During the exhibition the founder representative of the newly founded Union Aleksandr Igitkhanyan presented the biography and works of the great painter Vahram Gayfejyan, who was born in Akhaltskha.
After the exhibition a documentary film about the painter was shown.
Vardges Surenyants, Hakob Kojoyan and Vahram Gayfejyan were the talented people , who were born in Akhaltskha and were creating in the twentieth century.
On 3 April a training- program for the teachers was held in Akhaltskha Resource Centre. The aim of this program was to prepare English teachers for the Georgian National English Language Examination.
English teachers from the schools of the town and villages attended this training, and it was led by Judith Elliott-the Senior English Language Fellow. As Judith Elliott mentioned, this kind of training- program will be also held in Akhalkalaki region.
This training-program was organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
On 26 March a foundation meeting of the new organization, The Union of The Creators named after Vahram Gayfechyan , was held. The artists of Akhaltskha , intelligentsia and representatives of Armenian Organizations were present on the meeting of the newly found organization. As the founding members declared to the Akhaltskha.Net , the aim of the newly found organization is to support, encourage and mobilize all creative and talented people from the city and villages, continue and develop the works of such famous artists like Vardges Surenyants, Vahram Gayfechyan and Hakob Kojoyan, who were born in Akhaltskha. The meeting of the Union was followed by the exhibition.
On 23 March a training was held in the hall of Akhaltskha State University. The training was held by the project " We are strong together” and the topic was " Intercultural Communication and Co-operation.” The participants of the training were Georgian and Armenian youth and the lecturers of the university. An amateur short film was shown on the training , which was dedicated to the Armenian and Georgian culture, habits and peculiarities. The aim of the training-program was to introduce the participants the culture of both nations and to be tolerant towards each other for co-operation and friendship between two nations.
Today Armenian Apostolic Church commemorates the famous martyrs Captain St. Sargis and his son Martiros’ holiday. At St. Cross Church a mass was held dedicated to this holiday. Now,as before at St. Sargis holiday, the way from Akhaltskha To Sazel’s St. Cross Church was full of people.
In the evening of 14 February Akhaltskha Priest – Father Tigran led a mass at St. Gevorg the Illuminator Charch.
The special mass dedicated to the celebration of "Tearandaraj” was followed by the celebration in the yard of St. Gevorg the Illuminator Church, where a big bonfire was made. The children were dancing around the bonfire under the folk music.
During the celebration of "Tearandaraj” the guests were treated to special cake called "gata”.
On 21-23 January a three-day training-program was held at Akhaltskha State University. The training was held by the project "We are strong together” and the topic was "Intercultural communication and Co-operation”. The participants of the training-program were Georgian and Armenian youth of the age of 18-25. The aim of the training was to point out and discuss the problems that had occurred during the years , to solve them and stimulate the co-operation and relationship between two nations.
The aim of the first day program was to make the youth closer through different activities , which helped them to familiarize with each other and keeping patience and tolerance during the discussion of controversial topics.

On December 26 a New Year concert was organized at the Akhaltskha Armenian State Dramatic Theatre by the Akhaltskha Armenian Youth Cultural and Educational Centre. This concert was dedicated to the fourth anniversary of the Centre. The concert was unique, because during the 4 years of functioning of the Centre , it was for the first time , that the children presented themselves to the great number of audience. The city government , the leader of Georgian- Armenian episcopate , the Armenian Relief Society in Georgia, the Akhalkhalak Youth Centre and other guests from Samtskhe- Javakhk and Armenia had been invited to this event. The Priest- Father Tigran Mkhitaryan provided a memorial service at Akhaltskha "St. Grigor Lusavorich” church on 7 December on the 22nd anniversary of the earthquake in Spitak.
Lots of Akhaltskha citizens, schoolchildren and their teachers attended the churchy for taking part in the mass and light the candles for the memory of the victims in the earthquake.

The 3rd Congress of National Council of Armenians of Western Armenia opened in Marseille, France.
The congress participants will focus on restoration the rights of Armenians from Western Armenia, prevention of elimination of Armenian cultural heritage and resolution of problems in Armenian-populated Samrskhe-Javakheti region of Georgia. They will also discuss creation of an archive of documents on the Armenian Genocide.
"All issues will be discussed by separate working groups. We will try to work out legal moves to resolve them,” one of the council founders Armenak Abrahamyan told aPanARMENIAN.Net reporter.
"Basing on the UN resolution on aboriginal nations, we can restore our rights and call Turkey and Azerbaijan to account,” he said.
An exhibition dedicated to the 150th jubilee of painter Vardges Surenyants (1860-1921) opened today in the National Art Gallery of Armenia.
The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan, founder of Heritage party Raffi Hovhannisyan and cultural figures.
"This exhibition comes first in the list of the state committee-approved events dedicated to the Vardges Surenyants' 150th jubilee," the prime minister said, stressing the role of the world-renowned artist's cultural heritage.
Getting better familiarized with Surenyants' art, Tigran Sargsyan had been surprised to know that the great artist had only 1 exhibition while alive.

Hayastan All-Armenian Fund has raised a record-breaking $20.8 million in pledges at its 13th International Telethon.
The live 12-hour show aired from KCET Hollywood Studios on Thursday and reached millions of households globally.
The live program featured a rich presentation of Armenian music and entertainment, as well as celebrities, political and community leaders, and long time Armenia Fund supporters and donors.
The Telethon culminates Armenia Fund’s global fundraising campaigns that included Phone-a-thons, gala dinners, and benefit concerts, as well as the annual benefit gala held in Moscow and the 11th Pan-European Phone-a-thon held in Paris.
Armenia Fund, along with its global affiliates will provide detailed information within the next few weeks, regarding total number of donors and pledges. On November 22 the exhibition dedicated to the artist of Tbilisi Robert Kandakhsazov’s commemoration was opened. At the exhibition the pictures from the Master’s personal collection were mainly presented. "The event will last for three days,”- declares "hayastan.com” Robert Abgar Kandakhsazov was born in 1937, in Tbilisi, to a doctor’s family. As soon as he graduated from school, he entered Tbilisi Academy of Arts, painting faculty. After graduating from the Academy the Artist took a decision not to exhibit his works for the reason of protecting them from ideology and conjuncture. They have been exhibited only since 1964. Moreover, he was engaged in design, book graphic, scenography. He became a member of Artist Union in 1968. The honored Artist of Georgia also attended international meetings in Russsia , Armenia, Georgia, Great Britain, USA, France, Belgium, Holland, Israel, Austria. Robert Kandakhsazov died in 2010 in Moscow.
Marios Garoyian, President of the House of Representatives in Cyprus, has called for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, saying that Turkey, the perpetrator of this crime, can no longer go "unpunished,” reports Famusta Gazette.
"Today we turn our memory to the Armenian Genocide, a crime against humanity which is still unpunished, and we call once more on the international community to recognize this heinous crime,” he said in his address at a special church service to mark a religious celebration at the local Armenian church, adding that the historical truth must be recorded.
Garoyian pointed out that Turkey, must bear the consequences of its actions and described Ankara’s attempts to make peace with Armenia as "devious,” saying they "lack any shred of credibility.”

ARF Bureau Hay Dat and Political Affairs Office director Kiro Manoyan said that the document on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict adopted by Socialist International (SI) in Paris is of keen importance and defines the organization’s further steps aimed at the conflict resolution.
"SI tries to establish atmosphere of trust among the parties to the Karabakh conflict both inside the organization and outside it. It is important that the document refers to displaced people from the two sides, necessity of following the 1994 truce terms, withdrawal of snipers from the frontline, what has been numerously offered by Armenia. Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) issued a statement expressing concern over the position of Georgian Deputy Minister for Reintegration Elena Tevtoradze.
"The AAC in Georgia is a mere subsidiary of Holy Etchmiadzin. Georgia has no intention to provide a status to Georgian Diocese,” she said at the conference on problems and perspectives of Georgia’s Armenian community.
"The statement by the Deputy Minister is incomprehensible to the Armenian community. Earlier, during the meetings with community representatives, the Reintegration Ministry officials confirmed their intention to introduce changes in Georgia’s civil legislation, envisaging provision of public entity status to religious communities of Georgia,” the community reacted.
Armenian side has no intentions to start a war, but if necessary, we’ll give final and devastating counterattack, President Serzh Sargsyan declared after the NK military trainings.
It’s worth reminding that President Serzh Sargsyan attended NK military trainings issued on November 1-13.
President Sargsyan said that the trainings are a kind of response to threats made the other side of the border.

On the initiative of the National Congress of Armenians of Georgia, a 3-day exhibit in memory of Armenian painter Gayane Khachaturyan opened in Tbilisi on November 15.
Gayane Khachaturyan (1942-2009) is the author of over 700 paintings. Presently, her works are displayed in prestigious galleries and private collections in Italy, France, Netherlands, Austria and other countries.

The arrested citizen of the Republic of Armenia, that is accused for uranium selling in Georgia, is ready to name the uranium producers and suppliers in case his penalty is eased. "Tert.am” declares about it by the reference to the "Commersant”.
It is not known yet whether the Georgian law enforcement authorities agreed on this bargain or no.
We should point out that the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Shota Utiashvili has declared that the office was aware of the person who had transmitted the uranium to the smugglers, but the source was not established.
At the same time the representative of the Ministry expressed confidence about the fact that the uranium had been produced in Russia.

On 8 November the Armenian State Chamber Music Band held a concert at Akhaltskha theatre. This concert was organized by the program of Armenian Cultural Season in Georgia. The Armenian Chamber Music Band presented Armenian and Georgian classical and folk songs. Similar concerts had been held in the hall of Tbilisi conservatoire and at St. Gevorg’s church.
From 25 September, 2006 Armenian Youth Centre of Akhaltskha began its functioning.

None of the candidates has any chances to be elected to Congress from California’s 29 district unless he puts emphasis on the Armenian Genocide recognition, the Hill reported.
According to the congressional newspaper, Adam Schiff "went toe-to-toe with President Obama this Congress over the Genocide recognition.” The newspaper recalls that Obama did not fulfill his campaign pledge to recognize the Armenian Genocide "under pressure of damaged relations with Turkey.” However, Schiff’s Genocide resolution was approved by the Foreign Affairs Committee in March causing deterioration in the U.S.-Turkish relations.

Georgian parliament voted on Tuesday for a new bill that will allow selling the gas pipeline that carries Russian gas to Armenia. The bill was adopted with 88 votes. Five MPs voted against the initiative, reports local Russian newspaper PБK.
Georgian opposition has voiced its criticism against this bill saying that the pipeline must remain as state property. The reason, according to opposition representatives, is that among companies contending to buy it might be also Russian ones which pose an "energy and economic threat to Georgia.”
During the 17th session of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IPAO), Catholicos of All Armenians, His Holiness Karekin II expressed hope that the meeting in the Armenian land will provide opportunities to alleviate discrepancies in the Christian world.
According to him, currently the separation of church from the state is conceived as mutual exclusion of two ideas, what leads to formation of indifference among the population towards the spiritual life. "We strongly believe that the solution of temporal problems is impossible as long as the state keeps away from the church," Catholicos of All Armenians said.

Newly-opened Hay Dat office will be responsible for the study of Georgian Armenians’ issues.
Representatives of Georgian Integration Ministry, US Embassy, Georgian Eparchy of Armenian Apostolic Church and Armenian NGOs were invited to participate in the opening ceremony.
In the cold and rainy morning of 24th of April Armenian population of Akhaltskha gathered in Armenian St. Grigor Lusavorich church to commemorate and light a candle for the souls of the victims of Armenian Genocide.
Armenian and Georgian flags were lowered and people with posters moved to the Cross- stone memorial for Armenian Genocide victims. Father Manuk Zeynalyan and Father Grigor Miqayelyan prayed with people for the souls of Genocide victims of 1915 Genocide.

In the evening of 23th of April Armenian "Zori Zoryan” youth, cultural and educational center of Akhaltskha organized a torch light march. The torch light march started at St. Grigor Lusavorich church, from where the participants walked to the Cross- stone in memory of Armenian Genocide victims.
Next to the Cross- stone the participants of the torch light march prayed for the souls of the victims of Armenian Genocide and song patriotic songs.
The Armenian and Georgian Ministers of Education made a decision on establishment of Georgian language department at Yerevan State Linguistic University.
During the April 16 meeting, Armenian Minister of Education Armen Ashotyan and his Georgian counterpart Dmitry Shashkin made a decision on establishment of Georgian language department at Yerevan State Linguistic University.
They also discussed prospects of boosting cooperation in the education field, as well as new education programs providing representatives of national minorities with preferential terms for entrance to higher education institutions.
Assembly of Tbilisi Armenians (ATA) is collecting 1915 symbolic signatures to urge the Georgian President, parliament Speaker, all parliamentarians as well as all leading Georgian political parties to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
The action will continue until April 18. ATA representatives will give the letters to the addressees on Monday, ATA press service reported.
